Rolls-Royce
is just one of the many companies that recognise the importance of encouraging young people. Nicola Swaney, Education Manager for the company says:
"Rolls-Royce is actively involved in education outreach activities focused on STEM subjects as a crucial element from which we can recruit. Rolls-Royce supports a wide range of national, regional and local programmes where we have a presence. This support is mainly provided by our 400 STEM Ambassadors, many of whom are Graduate Trainees and Apprentices who develop their own skills at the same time as enthusing young people's interest and learning in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths."
Businesses can work with education providers in a number of ways:
- Encouraging employees to take part in voluntary schemes that reach out to young people.
- Organising industry visits and placements for students and teachers.
- Getting involved in science and technology partnerships.
- Setting up workshops, competitions and presentations.
- Supporting STEM-related qualifications.
- Establishing apprenticeship programmes.
