Awards

The STEM Student Journalist Awards takes place yearly and recognises the hard work and enthusiasm demonstrated by the students.  Each student who has submitted a report is awarded a certificate and the following 3 prizes are up for grabs:

Best Educational Institute - sponsored by 3M
Best Over 16 yrs Reporter - sponsored by BioKnex
Best Under 16 yrs Reporter - Sponsored by Ignition*

Who is eligible to enter the awards?
Anyone who has submitted a report to The SSJ Team and falls under one of the above catergories.

How do you enter?
Educational Institutes can submit one nomination per award by e-mailing  a completed application form (downloadable below) to The SSJ Team.

What are the judges looking for?
The judges will take into account the age and educational stage of each entrant. Marks will be given for:

  • Overall news quality (40%) – unusual, amusing, interesting, engaging content, etc
  • Overall written or reporting ability (40%) – style, dialogue, interaction with the reader/listener, etc
  • Effective use of the report (20%) – coverage achieved, presentations to school, etc

Can you win a prize?
Yes the following prizes are up for grabs:

  • A Flick Camcorder for both the under 16yrs and over 16yrs Awards
  • A Podcasting Kit and Flick Camcorder for best Educational Institute Award

When are the awards announced?
The winners will be announced online in December 2009.  The SSJ Team will visit each winner to present them with their prize.
