I am not a maths student but after today I regret not being one! It was one of the most informative, funny and engaging groups of lectures I have gone to see.
We had maths on the back of an envelope with Rob Eastaway. He brought maths into everyday life.
We then had a lecture from Simon Singh called probability and risk. He introduced his topic and then played a game called penny ante with one member of the audience. It was funny and showed that maths can apply to scams. It was very informative and when he talked through the calculations for some of the scenarios, this was useful and helped me understand what he was going on about.
For our last lecture was with Colin Wright, it was a treat! We were taught the maths behind juggling.
We had a presenter Kate Bellingham, who was a former ‘Tomorrow’s World’ presenter. She was talking us through her project on trying to break the land speed record and on the general practical uses of maths.
Overall it was a day that shouldn’t have been missed and should be enjoyed by everyone.
